Extraction and Bone Grafting

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

An extraction is the removal of a tooth. There are different reasons why a tooth could be removed: severe gum disease/abscessed tooth, fractured tooth/root, severe decay, or orthodontic reasons.

At the time of the extraction a bone graft will be placed into the socket. This helps maintain bone shape and volume. If planning on replacing an extracted tooth,  healing time is required before the implant can be placed (generally three months.)
