Crown Lengthening

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

It is very difficult for your restoring dentist to place a new restoration or to cement a crown when tooth decay or a fractured cusp disappears below the gum line. Often the dentist cannot see the area or it is difficult to keep the area free of salvia or blood during treatment.  In such a case, crown lengthening surgery is preformed, resulting in healthy gum tissue in a receded position: the result allows easier access in a clean, dry working field for the restoring dentist.
