Contouring

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

We like to refer to contouring as “jewelry work.” Contouring is fine tuning of the cemented caps (or restoration) at the gum line. When crown margins (edges) have overhangs (a catch), or are bulky, bacteria tends to get trapped around the edges. These sites can be difficult to clean which leads to gum line tooth decay or gum infections. The crown margin is carefully polished down to reduce the problem.
