Dental Myth Busters

MYTH: You don't have to floss all your teeth...

The easiest way for us to put this... we have a sign hanging on our wall we all seem to like, it states.. "You don't have to floss all your teeth, just the ones you want to keep."

We encourage proper flossing of all of your teeth each day!

MYTH: Medication CURES toothache...

TRUTH: It is untrue that medication will cure a toothache. Medications may temporarily relieve a toothache, but will not cure a toothache. To treat a toothache, you need to visit your dentist and find the cause of the problem.

Please let us, or your general dentist know if you have an issue!

MYTH: Dental implants are painful...

TRUTH: From experience with our patients, we have come to find that dental implants are not painful. Dental implants are placed under local anesthesia to ensure that you are comfortable. We also offer I.V and nitrous sedation to provide you with the best comfort options for you.

Post-op for implant surgery also seems to be non-dramatic. Generally we see our patients a week after surgery. More than most seem to say they may have had some tenderness the first day, but after that no problems!!  Ibuprofen seems to manage any discomfort a patient may have.

MYTH: Bleeding gums should not be a concern...

TRUTH: Gums that bleed when you brush or floss are a sign that something is not right. Bleeding, red, or swollen/tender gums are signs of periodontal infection. Please contact us or your general dentist and let them know about your concern. Along with gum infection and bone/tooth loss, periodontal infection can also contribute to other health problems.
